Around Hammond, Indiana: to Jean Shepherd’s Boyhood Home

This drive takes you on a loop around Hammond, Indiana. This was Jean Shepherd’s boyhood hometown, and on this drive, we stop at his home at 2907 Cleveland Street. That’s right, he really did live on Cleveland Street, just like in “A Christmas Story”. Also worth noting: this drive begins at the Indiana Welcome Center, which has a statue of poor Flick, permanently attached by tongue to the flagpole out front.

I made this trip in March, 2020, shortly before the world went crazy and we all had to stay home.
